I just discovered that my favourite play, Kōbō Abe's Friends, was made into a film in 1988.
I'd like to tell you what the play is about but it's kind of impossible to do without spoilers. But I can say that what appeals to me most about Abe's fiction is the transformation of a world from something unremarkable into something totally bizarre, by such small steps that you mostly don't realise what's happening until you are very, very far from home.

I can't find the film anywhere online, or even a physical copy to buy. If you have one, or have any leads, I'd love to hear!
